Southern LivingSouthern Living Names Beechwood Inn “One of the South’s Best Inns” 2018

Southern Living says: Plan your weekend travels around these charming spots laced with luxury and lots of little extras- from cooking classes to dolphin sightings and horseback riding

“We can’t decide which we like better here-the Wine-Thirty evenings featuring Beechwood’s own varietals or the farm-to-table dinners held every Saturday. Rabun County is known for fresh organic eggs, crops from the field (notably tasty cabbage), and four local vineyards. You’ll see that farm-to-table tradition reflected at Beechwood, where innkeepers Gayle and David Darugh celebrate their locale with cooking classes about three times a month.” https://beechwoodbnb.com/southern-living-names-beechwood-inn-one-of-the-souths-best-inns/

Who doesn’t love a great weekend getaway? For most of us, getting away from our lives, even if it is just for a few days, lifts our minds, body, and spirit. So let’s experience new adventures – and the perfect place for this trip is the North Georgia Mountains. Only 70 miles northwest of Greeneville via Highway 76 North and Highway 441, but a million miles away from the traffic, stress and anxiety of the city.

Our location at the southern-most end of the Appalachian Plateau makes it a pristine spot for nature lovers, while our small mountain towns overflow with character and charm. In addition, we offer a burgeoning wine industry with more than thirty wineries. Here’s how we recommend making the most of this under-the-radar getaway.

Need a special place to visit not too far from home. Come celebrate the season of awakening in Rabun County Georgia, located in the southern Blue Ridge Mountains. Beautiful mountain valleys, cool springs, roaring waterfalls, lush forests, shimmering lakes, famous hiking trails, a picturesque gorge, and a wild and scenic river. And stay at a luxurious award winning inn known for its serious food and wine credentials.

Spring Fun in the North Georgia Mountains … Rabun County is home to Foxfire Museum, the birthplace of Moonshine as a professional hobby and is home to three Georgia Wineries. It is bordered on the north by North Carolina, and on the east by South Carolina, and only 1 ½ hours north of Atlanta and 70 miles West of Greenville, SC. The Rabun County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is the official Destination Marketing Organization for the area. Make sure you visit its website http://explorerabun.com as your first stop on a vacation to our beautiful North Georgia Mountains.

At a recent farm-to-table event, the six-course meal was so fresh that David pointed to the tomato stakes, berry patch, and herb garden where many ingredients had been harvested. Food was served with clever pairings like a Spanish Vivanco Dinastia Rosé matched with a gazpacho drizzled in tequila cream. Homemade bread is something of a specialty, as the next morning’s bread-pudding-like blueberry French toast proved. (Wine is served daily at 5:30 p.m., even on days when dinner isn’t offered. The Darughs can also arrange personal wine tastings.) – See more at: http://www.atlantamagazine.com/travel/wine-weekend-beechwood-inn-clayton-georgia/#sthash.iweWanhC.dpuf

Travel Writer Megan Martz says about Beechwood Inn’s dining: “Quite Possibly the Best Meal We Have Ever Had.” Ryan and I live in Decatur, a wonderful location for Atlanta restaurants, and we make it a point to try new and exciting places. In that sense, we are very much spoiled. We also plan most of our trips abroad around eating, so trust me on this next part. This was quite possibly the best meal that we have ever had. It was, by far, the most well thought out meal that we have ever been served. Between each course, David walked us all through the ingredients. We learned about the local farmers who grew the micro-greens in our salad and raised the pigs for the house-made fennel sausage; we even learned the history of Laurel-Aged Charleston Gold Rice. Each wine pairing was excellent, and David explained their characteristics, their regions of origin, and the best way to taste our glass of Italian Nardone when paired with our cheese course. We shared a table with another couple, and they were equally impressed with such a fine dining experience outside of the city. While each description was mouth-watering, each bite was even more delicious. http://www.afriendafar.com/2016/02/09/georgia-mountain-bed-breakfast/
