Beechwood Inn: 100+ Years of North Georgia Hospitality
Where timeless charm meets modern comfort in the heart of Georgia Wine Country.
Originally built in 1916 as a private residence for Reverend Herman Charles and Lura Bucholz, Beechwood Inn has long been part of the rich history of Clayton, Georgia. After Reverend Bucholz passed in 1922, Lura transformed their mountain home into a summer guesthouse, welcoming travelers from the city eager to enjoy the fresh air and scenic views of the North Georgia Mountains.
Beechwood Inn operated successfully for decades, even continuing a few years after Lura’s passing in 1957. Eventually, it closed its doors and passed through several owners before being lovingly restored in the late 1990s.
That restoration came from David and Gayle Darugh, who brought new life to the Inn with thoughtful upgrades and a renewed vision. From around 2000 to 2022, they operated Beechwood Inn as a celebrated Bed & Breakfast and Farm-to-Table destination, offering seasonal dinners, curated wine experiences, and hands-on cooking classes using locally sourced ingredients.
In 2022, a new chapter began when Eli Rodriguez and Marlon Castiblanco became the new stewards of the Inn. Inspired by its century-long legacy, they refreshed the space with a modern yet cozy aesthetic. Today, Beechwood Inn continues to charm guests with stylish accommodations, historic character, and Southern hospitality at its finest.
